Blog Writing 101
You are probably thinking, “another post already?” The answer is yes, and there is a reason for it as I will explain here.
In a slightly different tune from my usual posts, I want to tell you about my school experience at Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage where I am pursuing a Bachelor’s of Arts in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Creative & Professional Writing.
I made the decision to double major for a few reasons. The first reason being that I really enjoy both subjects and that they complement each other well. The second reason is that, when I transferred my credits from community college courses in high school and one year at the University of Wyoming, I could have graduated with one business degree in three semesters, but I did not want to do that because I wanted the full, four year college experience.
I am able to take a full course load (21 credits or 6-7 classes) every semester because of the way the class schedules are structured. It is similar to a quarter system where my classes are split in 2 sections that are each 7 weeks long (i.e. first half and second half of the semester). This allows me to take classes at a staggered pace rather than all at once. That does mean the classes tend to be more concentrated and fast paced, so I have to stay focused.
Last spring, I had the opportunity to take an online pilot class called “Reporting on Indigenous Communities” through the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. I really enjoyed the class, however, it transferred to APU as 3 credits when I needed 4 credits, so I was left with needing to fulfill the final credit in order to graduate. As a solution, I worked with my advisor to create a self directed class called “Blog Writing.” So why am I telling you all of this? Because this is my school assignment, a blog post every week for the next 7 weeks!
The goal of this class is to help me further develop my platform online, while analyzing other athlete blogs to study style and point of view. I am looking forward to this challenge as it will encourage me to be more interactive and present with my readers. So thank you for reading this post, you are helping me graduate!
And with that, I am projected to graduate April 30th and conclude my educational journey here at APU. Is there anything specific you would like to read about? Do you have any questions about me, Alaska, the university, the ski team, or something else? You can fill out the form below so I can answer your questions in future posts! Happy trails :)
