Summer for Surgery

If you have been following along so far, you would know that I wrote about being scheduled for foot surgery in April. Unfortunately, my surgery was canceled then rescheduled for June 3rd because of Covid-19 restrictions. Although this situation was not ideal, it did allow for more on snow training at Hatcher’s Pass well into May!

Finally, I had surgery where they did a subtalar fusion, which is fusing the heel bone together with the ankle. Six weeks in a cast, five weeks in a boot, four incisions, two permenant screws, and 25 stitches later I am finally walking! For now, most of my training is physical therapy, swimming, easy road biking, and static shooting at the range. I’m still struggling with a lot of pain and lack of mobility, but I’m working hard to to heal up.

With all my free time because of no training or school, I was able to take a quick trip to visit my family in Wyoming and help out around the ranch. Under normal circumstances, I don’t visit in the summers because I am busy training and working, so it was nice getting a summer off to help with haying. My sisters and I spent 14 straight days driving tractors cutting, raking, and baling the hay so the cows and horses have food for the winter.

For those rightfully concerned, I was tested (negative results) and did a 14 day quarantine upon arriving in Wyoming and when I got back to Anchorage. Luckily, my family lives in a very remote area so I was able to safely enjoy the wide open country side and familiar faces.

The best part about this summer, was my sister, Laura, getting engaged to her boyfriend-now-fiance, Dylan. They are the happiest, most in love couple I have ever seen and I am so excited for you two! Cheers to you both for a long and exciting life together <3

I wish I had a more entertaining summer update :( However, with classes underway and the leaves turning yellow, I am excited for this fall :) and fingers crossed we have season this winter! If not, I picked the right year to get surgery and rehabilitate.
